QE-PUTM Series Man-Made Panel Universal Testing Machine
The QE-PUTM Series is a computerized universal testing platform for evaluating the mechanical properties of wood-based panels and engineered boards, including MDF, particleboard, OSB, plywood and suitable laminated panels.
With application-specific fixtures, the system supports bending, internal bond, surface bond, screw withdrawal, tensile, compression and selected shear tests.

Test Capabilities and Fixtures
| Test | Property Evaluated | Required Setup |
| Static bending | Bending strength and stiffness—MOR and MOE | Supports, loading nose or noses, and suitable deflection measurement |
| Internal bond | Tensile strength perpendicular to the panel | Bonded loading blocks and aligned tension fixture |
| Surface bond / soundness | Surface cohesion or surface-layer strength | Method-specific preparation and pull fixtures |
| Screw withdrawal | Resistance to axial screw extraction | Screw gripper and specimen support |
| In-plane tension | Tensile response parallel to the panel surface | Suitable grips and specimen geometry |
| Compression | Compressive response in the specified direction | Aligned platens and support where required |
| Shear | Strength in the specified shear mode | Dedicated method-specific fixture |
For MOE, use the deflection measurement required by the standard. Crosshead travel can include machine and fixture deformation.
Internal-bond and surface-bond tests evaluate different properties and are not interchangeable.
Applicable Standards
| Standard | Relevant Application |
| ASTM D1037 | Mechanical tests for wood-base fibre and particle panels |
| ASTM D3043 | Structural-panel flexure |
| ASTM D5651 | Surface bond strength |
| EN 310 | Bending strength and apparent bending modulus |
| EN 319 | Internal bond of particleboards and fibreboards |
| EN 320 | Axial screw withdrawal |
| EN 311 | Surface soundness |
| ASTM E4 / ISO 7500-1 | Force-system calibration and verification |
Compatibility requires suitable fixtures, specimen preparation, conditioning, loading rates and verified measurement systems. The selected ASTM D3043 method and specimen dimensions must fit the ordered frame.
ASTM D1037 includes tests requiring equipment beyond a UTM; this machine does not perform the entire standard by itself.
Applications
- MDF and HDF
- Particleboard
- OSB
- Plywood and veneer-based panels
- Overlaid and laminated wood-based panels
- Furniture and cabinetry materials
- Flooring-panel development
- Adhesive and manufacturing-process comparisons

Why Choose This Model?
Multiple Panel Tests
Configure one testing platform for several mechanical properties by changing the fixtures and test method.
Application-Matched Capacity
Select the frame and load cell according to expected peak force and the lowest force requiring accurate measurement. Higher capacity does not automatically improve low-force performance.
Computerized Testing and Reporting
Control the test, display curves, calculate selected properties and prepare reports using the supplied software configuration.
Flexible Test Space
Select clear height, width, travel and fixture dimensions around the required specimens. Extended bending spans or full-size panels may require a special frame.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which capacity should I choose?
Provide the panel type, thickness, specimen dimensions, required standards and expected forces. Both maximum capacity and verified low-force performance should cover the intended tests.
Can it calculate MOR and MOE?
Yes, with the appropriate bending arrangement, specimen measurements, deflection system and software method.
Can it test internal bond and surface bond?
Yes, when both configurations are supplied. They require different preparation and fixture arrangements.
Can it test full-size sheets?
Only when the ordered frame and loading arrangement accommodate the required method. A standard laboratory frame should not be assumed to accept full-size panels.
Does it measure moisture, thickness swelling or formaldehyde emissions?
No. These require separate equipment and procedures. Specimen conditioning may also be needed before mechanical testing.
